Gary Oldman Teases Star Wars Role
We get things started with Gary Oldman. The venerable actor is out doing publicity for Robocop, and an enterprising reporter recently sat down with him and asked if maybe we might see him somewhere in the upcoming Star Wars films. Oldman then reveals that such a thing could happen.

Oldman mentions that he’s already heard from the Star Wars folks, but goes no further. The actor, who’s already been in Nolan’s Batman movies, Harry Potter, Planet of the Apes, and a ton of other classic features, seems sort of bemused by the idea of appearing in Star Wars. He makes it fairly clear that nothing is imminent on the casting front, but getting Oldman would be a pretty big casting coup for J.J. Abrams and the team. Now we can all sit around wondering who he might play…

There are few British actors – or any actors, for that matter – who are more respected in the industry than Gary Oldman. With as diverse a filmography as you can imagine stretching back more than thirty years, he has earned his status as one of cinema’s greatest thespians. We were thrilled to have a chance to speak with him about his latest venture, the Jose Padilha reimagining of RoboCop, in which he plays the doctor responsible for bestowing Alex Murphy with his robotic enhancements.
In the course of our chat, Oldman tells us what he thinks his most challenging role has been to date and what he feels is the reason stories such as RoboCop continue to be revisited, in addition to divulging a few tidbits on his upcoming blockbuster Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

While he was doing press rounds for Robocop, Sky Movies quizzed Gary Oldman on whether there was any chance we'd see him in Star Wars - be it in Episode VII or one of the future spin-offs. And sure enough, the ever candid actor reveals that J.J. Abrams and/or Disney are interested in getting him on board in some capacity. Oldman admits that "they've called", but doesn't show any indication that he's agreed to official discussions - he also seems slightly hesitant about signing up to another huge franchise, saying that he's become "cynical" about certain types of roles.
